Description

A Financial Markets Trader buys and sells financial instruments such as equities, derivatives, commodities and currencies to generate returns for a firm, fund or personal portfolio. The role demands sharp analytical thinking, risk management and the ability to act quickly on market information.

Most Indian traders begin with NISM certifications and build practical skill through simulated trading, internships at broking desks and continuous study of economics and technical analysis. It is a performance-driven career where earnings are closely tied to results.

Entrance Exams

NISM Series VIII (Equity Derivatives)

National Institute of Securities Markets (SEBI)

The benchmark certification for trading derivatives on Indian exchanges; mandatory for many dealer roles.

NISM Series V-A (Mutual Fund Distributors)

NISM (SEBI)

Required for distributing and advising on mutual fund products.

CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst)

CFA Institute, USA

Globally respected qualification for research and investment roles; strong edge for buy-side trading.

B.Com / BBA / MBA Finance (recommended base)

Universities / B-schools
