Description

ITI Electrician is a two-year vocational course under the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) framework that provides practical training in electrical wiring, electrical maintenance and industrial electrical systems. It is designed for quick entry into the electrical trade and workforce.

Students learn electrical wiring, domestic and industrial installation, motor winding, transformer basics, electrical safety, measuring instruments and basic repair. The course is highly practical with workshop training and on-site apprenticeships.

Graduates work as electricians, wiremen, maintenance electricians and electrical technicians in construction, factories, housing societies, electrical contractors and as independent service providers. The trade has consistent demand across India.

Government & private ITIs

Admission is merit-based — ITIs admit on Class 10 marks; some states conduct a basic entrance test.

State ITI Entrance Exams

Respective state technical education boards

Some states conduct entrance tests for admission to government ITIs.

Job Roles

Electrician / Wireman

Installs and repairs electrical wiring and systems in homes, offices and factories.

Maintenance Electrician

Maintains and troubleshoots electrical systems in factories and industrial plants.

Electrical Technician

Assists in installation, testing and maintenance of electrical equipment.

Independent Service Provider

Runs an independent electrical service and repair business.

Salary

Fresher (0–2 yrs)

₹1.2 – ₹2.5 LPA

Industrial electricians and contractors pay at the higher end.

Mid-level (3–6 yrs)

₹2.5 – ₹5 LPA

Maintenance electricians in factories earn more with experience.

Senior (7+ yrs / Contractor)

₹5 – ₹10+ LPA

Independent contractors and licensed electricians earn well above this range.
