Description

ITI Electrician is a vocational trade offered by Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across India. It trains students in electrical installation, wiring, motor winding, transformer maintenance and industrial electrical systems.

The course is highly practical, with extensive workshop sessions and on-site training. Graduates are skilled in reading electrical diagrams, installing and repairing domestic and industrial wiring, and maintaining electrical equipment.

ITI electricians are in steady demand across construction, manufacturing, infrastructure and maintenance sectors. The certification also opens doors to government and PSU technician roles, and serves as a base for further specialisation or licensing as a wireman.

Merit-based Admission (SCVT / NCVT)

State ITI boards / NCVT

Most ITIs admit students on the basis of Class 10 marks; some states conduct a short entrance or counselling round.

NCVT Trade Certification

National Council for Vocational Training

After completing the trade, students receive the NCVT certificate, recognised across India for employment.

Job Roles

Electrician / Wireman

Installs, repairs and maintains domestic and commercial electrical wiring and fixtures.

Industrial Electrician

Maintains motors, transformers and control panels in factories and plants.

Maintenance Technician

Services electrical systems and equipment in residential, commercial and industrial settings.

Lineman (Power Distribution)

Installs and repairs overhead and underground power distribution lines.

Fresher (0–2 yrs)

₹1.2 – ₹2.5 LPA

Government and PSU roles offer better stability and benefits.

Mid-level (3–6 yrs)

₹2.5 – ₹4.5 LPA

Industrial and specialised electrical skills improve earnings.

Senior (7+ yrs / Licensed Contractor)

₹4.5 – ₹10+ LPA
