Description

ITI Machinist is a two-year vocational course under the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) framework that provides practical training in operating heavy machinery, lathes and industrial tools. It is designed for early entry into the manufacturing workforce.

Students learn lathe operations, drilling, milling, grinding, CNC basics, machine maintenance, engineering drawing, measurement and quality control. The course is highly practical with workshop training and industry apprenticeships.

Graduates work as machinists, lathe operators, machine operators, CNC operators and maintenance technicians in manufacturing companies, factories, workshops and production units.

Direct / Merit-based Admission

Government & private ITIs

Admission is merit-based — ITIs admit on Class 10 marks; some states conduct a basic entrance test.

State ITI Entrance Exams

Respective state technical education boards

Some states conduct entrance tests for admission to government ITIs.

Job Roles

Machinist

Operates lathes, milling and grinding machines to manufacture precision parts.

Lathe / Machine Operator

Operates lathes and industrial machines in factories and workshops.

CNC Operator

Operates CNC machines for precision manufacturing and production.

Maintenance Technician

Maintains and repairs industrial machines and equipment.

Salary

Fresher (0–2 yrs)

₹1.5 – ₹3 LPA

Manufacturing companies and factories pay at the higher end.

Mid-level (3–6 yrs)

₹3 – ₹6 LPA

Senior machinists and CNC operators earn more with experience.

Senior (7+ yrs / Workshop Supervisor)

₹6 – ₹10+ LPA

Workshop supervisors at large factories earn well above this range.
